1. Don’t Panic! Take a deep breath… We know it is stressful, but we can help you!
2. Don’t use store bought products as they are most often repellents. These products cause the bed bugs to spread out throughout the home making treatment a more difficult and drawn out process. Save yourself the headache and skip the aerosols!
3. Wash your bedding for some immediate relief. It is best to do this on the hottest setting your washing machine and dryer have.
4. Start washing and bagging clothes that are kept near the bed. You’ll want to launder anything that is stored underneath the bed or beside the bed in preparation for treatment. We know this means a lot of laundry for you. It does not need to be done all at once! We simply recommend twisting and knotting any bags of laundry you can’t get to immediately. We also recommend storing washed clothes in sealed bags as well so you can avoid rewashing these things later.
5. If you find them in the middle of the night, you may sleep in another room for a day or two, however you want to avoid this habit for extended periods. If you fully move to another room, you will attract the bugs to that new area of your home which spreads the infestation.
If you wish to sleep elsewhere temporarily, put on a fresh pair of pyjamas and bring fresh bedding to prevent bringing a hitchhiker along with you to your spare room or couch!
